About Hancock Fabrics Store:
Hancock Fabrics was a store in the US town of Baldwyn, Mississippi that sold crafts and fabrics. Under the name Hancock Fabrics, it ran as many as 266 stores in 37 states. It was set up by Lawrence D. Hancock, who has since died. All stores are being sold off in a bankruptcy sale. All of the stores closed on July 27, 2016, putting an end to the chain.
Michaels purchases Hancock Fabrics out of bankruptcy
Michaels Cos., a retailer of arts and crafts products, has acquired the Hancock Fabrics brand and intellectual property for $1.3 million. Wal-Mart and Jo-Ann Fabric and Crafts dominate the fabric business. Independent retailers also operated fabric stores.
On its website, Michaels sells fabric from bolts, but not in stores. When Hancock Fabrics filed for bankruptcy in February, it had 250 stores in 37 states. It was the retailer’s second bankruptcy in less than 10 years.
Hancock went out of business as many retailers do after filing for bankruptcy. Hancock Fabric had about 25 stores in Texas.
